According to Nigerian Tribune, The tension in Edo State escalates as Governor-Elect Senator Monday Okpebholo raises concerns about the whereabouts of outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki, who allegedly left the Government House unannounced last Friday. According to a statement signed by Okpebholo’s spokesperson, Godspower Inegbe, Obaseki fled Benin City in an unmarked bus and has been unreachable since then.
“Obaseki has chased everyone out of Edo State Government House. He has abandoned governance in the State, and he is on the run,” Okpebholo’s statement read, questioning Obaseki’s sudden departure. “He did not pass through the airport… Instead, he hired a bus and disguised while escaping.”
This development follows accusations from Obaseki that Okpebholo failed to invite him to the upcoming inauguration. However, Okpebholo dismissed the claim as “laughable” and accused Obaseki of attempting to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power.
“Since Senator Okpebholo was declared winner, Obaseki has employed every means to frustrate a peaceful transfer of power,” Okpebholo’s statement continued, urging Obaseki to act responsibly as he concludes his tenure.
