Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to beg, emphasizing that he is no longer in a position of strength.
During an interview with TVC News from 12:40, Olayinka stated that the Rivers State governor should take proactive steps by reaching out to key individuals, initiating dialogue, and engaging in negotiations.
He criticized Fubara’s approach, suggesting that he is not effectively playing politics. According to Olayinka, once a leader loses a political battle, they must acknowledge their weakened position and make efforts to mend relationships.
He further noted that while there is no immediate threat of impeachment, the governor has committed offenses that could warrant such action. He stressed that the State House of Assembly has the constitutional authority to impeach both the governor and the deputy, and if they choose to exercise this power, it should not be questioned.
He said, “What I expect of him is to reach out to those people first, call people, send people to people, he is not playing politics. He should beg. When you go to a war and you lose, you have lost everything to negotiate. The governor is not in position of strength at all, he (Fubara) is no longer in the position of strength, he has been defeated, he should beg. Nobody is threatening to impeach him, but the question is, has he committed an impeachable offense? The answer is yes. The House of Assembly has right to impeach governor and deputy. So, if they say they want to carry out their functions, would I say they should not?”
