Lawyer and former Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, Samson Osagie, addressed the legal predicament facing Governor Siminalayi Fubara regarding the validity of the state budget. He noted that while Fubara could seek a stay of execution, it may not hold much weight given that the judgments in question are declaratory.

He warned that continuing to implement a budget that was not validly passed by the state legislature could lead to serious constitutional issues and potential consequences. He emphasized the gravity of the situation, pointing to the already tense political climate in Rivers State.

He said in an interview with Channels TV from 0:35, “He (Fubara) has the option of asking for a stay of execution, but what is there to stay because these are declaratory judgments. He has a lot to lose if he continues to implement a budget that is not validly passed by the state legislature. It becomes a constitutional issue and can lead to other unpleasant consequences, given the trajectory of the political situation in River State as we speak today.”
