‎In a recent interview with The Sun on Friday, March 13, 2026, George Ashiru, chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has stated that the party has gained significant political strength with the addition of five lawmakers from Lagos.

‎He stated that four members of the House of Representatives and one National Assembly member have officially joined ADC, boosting the party’s presence in the state and enhancing its capacity ahead of upcoming elections.

‎Ashiru explained that ADC already holds four out of the 24 House of Representatives seats in Lagos, the party is determined to retain these seats while aiming to win the remaining twenty constituencies.

‎According to him, the new lawmakers bring with them not only experience but also the support of the voters who elected them, giving ADC a stronger base to build upon, he said that the lawmakers’ decision to join ADC reflects growing confidence in the party as a viable alternative to the established political parties in Lagos.

‎Ashiru stated that this move is a clear sign of the party’s increasing relevance and influence in both state and federal politics and highlighted that retaining the existing seats and winning additional constituencies requires ongoing engagement with constituents and grassroots mobilisation.

‎Ashiru said ADC will continue to leverage the influence of these lawmakers to expand membership, build coalitions, and increase voter engagement and added that the party’s focus remains on delivering results for constituents while creating a strong network across Lagos.
