According to the report from the Vanguard, The Executive Director of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Natural Resources in the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Dr. Clifford Ogbede, has hailed President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to the South East region, describing the establishment of the commission as a testament to the President’s “deep love and concern” for the area.
Dr. Ogbede made these remarks during a congratulatory visit by members of the Ngor Okpala Journalists Forum to his Umuekwune, Obiangwu country home in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.
Speaking on the significance of the commission, Dr. Ogbede stated, “The creation of the SEDC is a gesture of deep love and concern, considering that the challenge it addresses had lingered for over fifty years and was also an existential problem.”
He noted that rebuilding the South East after the devastation of the three-year civil war, which ended in 1970, had remained a pressing national issue for decades. He pointed out that, despite sustained agitation, previous administrations ignored the calls for action.
Dr. Ogbede commended President Tinubu for his resolve to tackle the long-standing challenges in the region, saying, “For the President to brave the odds and become the only leader in the country’s history to act on this burning issue demonstrates his noble intentions for the South East. This will not only accelerate development in the zone but also reduce the tensions and agitations stemming from the perceived marginalization of the region.”
He also applauded Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, for his pivotal role in ensuring the creation of the SEDC, both within and outside the National Assembly. Additionally, he acknowledged the efforts of members of the 10th National Assembly for collaborating with the President to establish the commission.
Dr. Ogbede expressed confidence in the team appointed by President Tinubu to lead the SEDC, stating, “With the caliber of men and women, with proven leadership and management skills, experience, and track records, I am confident that the commission’s mandates will be achieved.”
