Shehu Sani, a former senator representing Kaduna Central, has criticized allegations suggesting that President Bola Tinubu is anti-north.
During an interview with TVC News from 16:10, Shehu Sani emphasized that Tinubu has dedicated much of his political career to supporting northern presidential candidates.
Sani noted that President Bola Tinubu played a significant role in supporting Shehu Musa Yar’Adua’s presidential ambition during the SDP era.
“It’s a painful thing when you see people making assertions that are not backed with facts. The person (Bola Tinubu) who happens to be the president of this country today, has spent most part of his political history supporting northern presidential candidates. Shehu Musa Yar’Adua presidential ambition in the SDP was supported by the person who is the president today, “he said.
Speaking further, he highlighted Tinubu’s alignment with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, a northerner, even when Olusegun Obasanjo, a fellow tribesman of Tinubu, was president at the time.
“When Obasanjo was the president who is from the south west, the person who is the president today, could have supported Obasanjo but, he aligned himself with Atiku Abubakar who happens to be his friend. Can that person be said to be anti-north?” he remarked.
He also stated that President Bola Tinubu played a pivotal role in Muhammadu Buhari’s victory in the 2015 presidential election against Goodluck Jonathan, a Southerner.
“The person who is the president today, was pivotal and key to the victory of president Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, as against a southerner from the southern part of the country, despite all the offers and treaties given to him,” he said.
Shehu Sani argued that with this history, it would be out of place to label president Bola Tinubu as anti-north.
