The Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, has disclosed the tactics Boko Haram used to expand their group. He made this disclosure while speaking about the 120,000 Boko Haram members, including 60,000 children, who surrendered to the military.
In an interview with Arise TV from 21:27, General Musa said that in the past, the Boko Haram group captured communities and forced men to join their ranks and men who refused were killed. He said the group shifted to a new strategy after losing control of territories. He said they began impregnating the women they captured to create a new generation of fighters and women who gave birth were made pregnant again just four months later. He explained that this cycle was aimed at producing children who would grow up to continue their terrorist activities.
General Musa described the surrender of these 60,000 children as a significant achievement. He emphasized that if these children had been raised under the group’s influence, they could have grown into a dangerous new generation of extremists.
In General Musa’s words: “They (Boko Haram) now decided to start impregnating the women. And what they do is that if a woman gives birth, 4 months after giving birth they impregnate her again. They were trying to produce a new set of terrorists and to us those new sets would have been most dangerous”
