Twelve armed robbers arrested by men of the Delta State Police Command have told the operatives that they always target residents who don’t bother to lock their doors at night.
The Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Bright Edafe, who disclosed the development on his X handle on Friday afternoon while parading the robbers and their weapons, said the men confessed that they used to scale the fences of houses after getting information that residents did not lock their doors.
According to some of the robbers in a video posted by the Police PRO, they always operated between 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. while brandishing guns, pistols as well as machetes and would jump the fences of houses after which they will enter because the doors of the houses were not locked.
One of them said they always knew that those houses were not locked because some of their gang members usually surveyed the areas where they were to operate and would point out houses that were not locked at night.
Edafe wrote: “Please always lock your doors, especially at night. While they were preparing for another operation, we swooped in on them, arrested over twelve of the suspected armed robbers, and recovered an English pistol, one long double barrel gun, a locally made cut-to-size gun and over seven cutlasses.
“They said they usually scaled through the fences and most of the time, their victims don’t usually lock their doors.”
The state police command has been grappling with the activities of various criminal groups including armed robbers, kidnappers , cultists, among others.
