Princess Islamiyat Oyefusi, former deputy governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos, has questioned the credibility of the state’s 2023 governorship election.

Speaking during a political discussion on News Central TV from 19:22, Oyefusi expressed doubts about the integrity of the electoral process, insisting it did not meet democratic standards. According to her, “The 2023 Lagos governorship election was not free and fair; we all saw the violence and stabbing at polling units.”

Her comments come amid ongoing conversations around electoral transparency and the direction of opposition politics in Lagos ahead of the 2027 elections. She pointed out that reported incidents during the polls discouraged voter turnout and weakened confidence in the electoral system.

Oyefusi also highlighted that despite the difficulties, opposition parties showed strength and readiness to challenge for power. She added that the experience from the 2023 elections should push electoral bodies and stakeholders to improve systems and deliver more credible elections in the future. Read_More…
