It was reported that former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan would not abandon his statesmanly status to return to politics and contest the 2027 presidential election.

According to The Nation, sources close to him revealed that he was under pressure from political friends and associates to make another attempt at the top job, and that the pressure had intensified in recent weeks.

They explained that his Abuja residence had been constantly flooded by those urging him to join the race, but he would not yield to their entreaties because he believed their motives were selfish.

The sources further disclosed that Jonathan believed some individuals wanted to drag him into the contest with the aim of breaking Southern solidarity. They added that he would not allow himself to be used by such elements, stressing that he preferred the South to complete its eight-year slot successfully before power shifted to the North.

“But, he’ll not make any public statement on the matter yet.”
