Veteran Nollywood actor, Ebun Olorunjuwon Oloyede, popularly known as Olaiya Igwe, has addressed the controversy surrounding a viral video in which he appeared half-naked while campaigning for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking on the Behind The Fame Podcast on Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 1:07:09, the legendary actor clarified that his public show of support was not financially motivated. He emphasized that he had not received any payment from President Tinubu for his campaign gesture.
“If I did what I did for Bola Ahmed Tinubu because of money, you would have seen me on TV or social media insulting him,” Olaiya Igwe said. “Till today, I’ve never asked him for money. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had paid me before doing what I did,” he added.
The actor went on to explain that his loyalty to Tinubu stemmed from a personal experience years earlier when he battled kidney disease. According to him, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, played a crucial role in his recovery and showed him great compassion.
He recounted how Oluremi Tinubu provided significant support during his illness, ensuring he received quality treatment at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja. “She even called me again to ask if the place was not okay and if I still had my American visa, offering to help me get treatment abroad,” he revealed.
Olaiya Igwe said he remains deeply grateful for her kindness, describing it as a life-changing act he will never forget. “She did all that without asking me for anything in return,” he said. “Because of that, I will remain grateful till I die,” he added. View, More,
