Former Edo State Governor and Nigerian senator, Adams Oshiomhole, has declared his decision to boycott Air Peace, Nigeria’s largest domestic airline, following a recent altercation at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.
Speaking in an interview on Channels TV, the senator expressed deep dissatisfaction with the airline’s handling of passengers and accused it of engaging in practices he described as exploitative and unfair.
He revealed that he has issued standing instructions to his aides to avoid booking him on any Air Peace flight, citing repeated unpleasant experiences and what he views as a consistent disregard for customer rights.
Oshiomhole’s declaration came in the wake of a public spat between him and the airline, which stemmed from an incident where he was denied boarding.
The controversy escalated when Air Peace accused the senator of arriving late and causing disruptions, while Oshiomhole maintained that he had checked in online and was unjustly refused entry onto the flight.
The senator further alleged that the airline routinely mistreats passengers, including demanding additional payments from travelers who had already purchased valid tickets.
Central to Oshiomhole’s decision to sever ties with the airline is his claim that Air Peace lacks accountability and transparency in its operations.
He insisted that his stance is not based solely on his personal experience but also on the grievances of fellow passengers, whom he said were subjected to financial exploitation and operational chaos.
He said: “I’ve given instruction to my officer that if you are buying me a ticket, don’t buy me Air Peace. Because even this one that led to this misunderstanding was not a fresh ticket. It was a ticket I bought for a 12:00 flight from Lagos to Abuja. It was later moved to 8:30. At 8:30, the flight was cancelled. So I was to reuse it on Wednesday. So it’s not even a fresh ticket.”
