Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has announced that he and his troops have taken over key forest areas in Taraba State and the adjoining Benue border communities as part of an intensified security operation.
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television, he explained that the deployment is aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts and restoring calm across the troubled region.
According to the brigade commander, the army has adopted a new strategy that involves physically occupying remote forest corridors long exploited by bandits and armed groups. He said the presence of a forward operating base would enable troops to respond swiftly to threats, block escape routes, and sustain pressure on criminal networks that traverse the Taraba–Benue axis.
Brigadier General Uwa, who was seen arriving with his soldiers to launch the new operational site, noted that the mission is part of broader clearance and reconnaissance efforts already underway. He emphasised that the military is determined to neutralise the activities of criminal elements whose operations have disrupted farming, travel, and commercial life in several communities.
While addressing his men at the newly established base, he reaffirmed the army’s commitment to taking full control of the area. “I have come with my men to occupy this forward operating base,” he said, stressing that the troops would maintain a firm presence to prevent criminals from regaining footholds.
Residents of neighbouring communities have expressed optimism, hoping the expanded military occupation will curb attacks and kidnappings that have plagued the region. Brigadier General Uwa assured citizens that the operation will be sustained, adding that the goal is to stabilise the corridor, secure rural settlements, and restore lasting peace across Taraba and its border with Benue State.
