Chidi Odinkalu, a renowned human rights lawyer and former chairman of the national human rights commission has lamented over the speed in which the petition by certain PDP governors was being handled. According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle, he pointed out that it has been over 120 days since they petitioned the declaration of state of emergency in Rivers State.

The declaration of state of emergency in Rivers State a couple of months ago to douse tensions in the state had been the subject of heated discussion after it was declared by the APC government.

However, 120 days after some governors elected under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), petitioned the declaration, the supreme court was yet to deliver a judgment.

This was according to Chidi Odinkalu, a renowned human rights lawyer and former chairman of the national human rights commission who lamented over the speed in which the petition was being treated.

According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle, the renowned legal expert pointed out that it had been 120 days since the petition was served. He disclosed that the supreme court had forgotten the case.

These were the words of Chidi Odinkalu which he shared on his official X handle,

“It is now over 120 days since the governors of PDP sued Nigeria government before Supreme Court over the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. The Supreme Court has forgotten the case file.” He wrote.
