Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for focusing on opposition politics instead of solving Nigeria’s problems, as reported by Daily Post on Friday, 25 July, 2025.

‎Atiku said the Tinubu administration should stop interfering in the affairs of other political parties.

‎He said the government should focus on the economy and security, which continue to get worse.

‎Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe, released a statement accusing President Tinubu of using government resources to attack the opposition.

‎He said Tinubu is more interested in winning the 2027 election than governing the country.

‎The statement followed Tinubu’s remarks mocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at the APC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

‎According to Atiku’s camp, Tinubu is trying to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.

‎They said he is spending public funds to cause problems among opposition groups.

‎They also claimed that the presidency tried to create division between Atiku and Peter Obi’s supporters.

‎But they said that effort failed, and the opposition coalition is now stronger.

‎Atiku also pointed to the growing hardship in the country.

‎He said insecurity, hunger, and poverty are increasing under Tinubu’s watch.

‎He described the government as confused and unable to provide solutions.

‎He also said Tinubu should focus on solving problems with Vice President Kashim Shettima and fixing the economy, instead of wasting time on opposition politics.

‎Atiku accused the government of using anti-corruption agencies to scare opposition members and force them to join the APC.

‎He warned that Nigeria’s democracy is under threat if the government keeps using state power to suppress other parties.

‎Finally, Atiku called on President Tinubu to leave opposition parties alone and focus on fixing the economy, reducing poverty, and restoring peace and security across the country.

‎“President Tinubu should first resolve the visible rift between himself and Vice President Kashim Shettima and fix Nigeria’s broken economy before meddling in the affairs of the ADC.

‎It is baffling that the presidency is spending scarce public funds to fuel internal divisions in an attempt to weaken alternative political voices.

‎We are fully aware that the supposed disagreements between supporters of Atiku and Peter Obi within the Coalition were deliberately stirred up by the presidency. Sadly for them, that divisive tactic has failed. The cracks have been mended, and the Coalition is now stronger than ever,” he said.
