General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged Christians to actively reject poverty and embrace the prosperity made available through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Speaking during a church service, Adeboye referenced the biblical story of a widow in 2 Kings 4 who approached the prophet Elisha for help. He noted that her situation changed only when she chose to speak out. “She cried to the man of God. As long as she kept quiet, the all-sufficient God sat in heaven and did nothing. As long as you want to remain poor, you will remain poor. But that’s changing tonight,” he declared.

Adeboye explained that a decisive rejection of poverty often marks the turning point in a believer’s life. “The day she cried and said, ‘No more poverty,’ that was the day her breakthrough came,” he said.

Challenging a common misinterpretation of scripture, the cleric clarified, “They will tell you, ‘Oh, it is written that money is the root of all evil.’ Wrong. That’s not what the Bible says. The Bible says the love of money — if you allow money to become your God — then you have a problem.”

Adeboye stressed that wealth in the hands of a committed believer is a divine tool for advancing God’s kingdom. “If you want to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, how many things will be added unto you? Say it loud and clear,” he prompted the congregation.

He then challenged members on their readiness to be entrusted with divine resources. “How many of you would love to be a divine treasurer?” he asked, urging them to prepare for the responsibilities that come with financial blessings.

According to him, poverty is not God’s plan for His children, as prosperity was bought at a high price.
