Former Nigerian Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has voiced strong criticism of the current administration’s approach to fuel subsidy management, blaming it for the ongoing economic challenges in the country.
In a recent tweet from his verified Twitter account, Atiku stated, “The haphazard and disingenuous approach of the current administration to fuel subsidy management has been the reason we are in this current economic crisis in the country.”
Atiku emphasized that the poor handling of fuel subsidy removal has led to a surge in inflation, which has had a devastating impact on the material well-being of Nigerians. He warned that the inflation rate would continue to escalate if no decisive measures are taken, highlighting the struggles faced by citizens as prices of goods and services skyrocket.
His comments come amid widespread public discontent with the government’s economic policies, particularly regarding fuel pricing. Atiku’s critique also draws attention to what he perceives as the government’s indifference to the hardship faced by ordinary Nigerians. He expressed his concern, stating, “It is even more worrying that T-pain is undisturbed by the hardship in the country.” Although it is unclear who Atiku refers to as “T-pain,” the message points to a figure in the current administration who, in his view, has shown a lack of empathy for the suffering of the masses.
