Republican Senator Joni Ernst has voiced her unwavering support for Israel, criticizing opposition to providing the country with key weapons amidst its ongoing conflict with Hamas.
In a statement on her verified Twitter account, Ernst emphasized the shared threats faced by both Israel and the United States, stressing the importance of strengthening military aid to the embattled nation.
“While Israel is being attacked on all fronts, it should not be under attack in the halls of Congress,” Ernst declared, referencing debates among U.S. lawmakers over military assistance to Israel. She reiterated her belief that Israel’s adversaries, including Iran-backed Hamas, pose a significant threat to U.S. interests and security, stating, “Israel’s enemies are our enemies.”
The Iowa senator also underscored the urgency of equipping Israel with advanced weaponry to combat Hamas and deliver a stern warning to Tehran. “Instead of blocking key weapons, we must provide Israel with the tools to demolish Iran-backed Hamas and send a clear message to Tehran,” she added.
Ernst’s comments come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, where Israel faces escalating rocket attacks from Hamas and growing threats from Hezbollah along its northern border. Meanwhile, the Biden administration and Congress are grappling with decisions about the scale and speed of military assistance to Israel, amid criticism from some lawmakers who question the humanitarian toll of the conflict.
