Giora Even Epstein, one of the most respected fighter pilots in the world, has died at the age of 87. He was known for his amazing skill in air combat and was considered a legend in Israel, as reported by The Times of Israel July 19 2025.

Even Epstein was nicknamed “Hawkeye” because of his sharp vision and fast reflexes. He became famous for shooting down 17 enemy aircraft 16 fighter jets and one helicopter all from Egypt. This made him the top supersonic jet fighter ace in the world, a record that still stands today.

He joined the Israeli Air Force in 1961 and served until 1997. During those years, he flew many dangerous missions and protected his country with honor. His talent and bravery made him the most decorated pilot in the history of the Israeli Air Force.
