In a brutally candid assessment of the recent conflict, U.S. President Donald Trump has admitted that Israel endured severe destruction in the final stages of the war with Iran, revealing that Iranian ballistic missiles took out “a lot of buildings.” Speaking with a tone that blended warning, admiration and unfiltered realism, Trump’s remarks painted a chilling picture of just how intense the missile barrage was — even as he declared a “tremendous victory” for Israel and the United States.

According to a report published today by The Times of Israel, Trump was addressing reporters at the NATO summit in The Netherlands when he reflected on the scale of the war’s final days. “Israel got hit very hard,” he said, stressing that the most damaging strikes came during the closing phase of the conflict. “Especially the last couple of days. Israel was hit really hard. Those ballistic missiles, boy they took out a lot of buildings.”

While reaffirming strong U.S. support for Israel, Trump openly acknowledged the toll of the Iranian strikes, marking one of the most unfiltered evaluations of Israel’s battlefield losses to date. Yet even as he lamented the destruction, Trump praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his leadership throughout the war, saying, “Bibi Netanyahu should be very proud of himself.”

He also addressed the ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Iran, describing it as “a very equal agreement” and noting that both sides had come to the conclusion that the fighting had reached its limits. “They both said, ‘That’s enough,’” Trump explained, signalling a moment of mutual exhaustion after days of intense exchange.

Trump characterised the joint U.S.-Israeli military effort as “a tremendous victory, a tremendous hit,” but made clear that the cost of that success was high — especially for Israel, which bore the brunt of late-stage missile attacks. His remarks offered rare public recognition from a sitting U.S. president of the sheer scale of destruction that Israeli cities and infrastructure suffered.

Though Trump left open the possibility of future diplomatic contact with Tehran, his message was unmistakable: Israel may have won militarily, but it paid heavily on the home front. And in Trump’s words, the damage was not marginal — “Israel got hit very hard.”
