Israeli fighter jets launched a powerful overnight assault on Tehran and other parts of Iran, hitting a range of high-value military sites linked to the country’s weapons and missile programmes. The strikes, carried out just hours ago, mark one of Israel’s most direct and extensive attacks on Iranian territory to date.

According to a report published today by The Times of Israel, the Israeli Defence Forces dropped more than 100 munitions in a coordinated operation that struck multiple Iranian targets. IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin confirmed at a press conference that among the main targets was the headquarters of the SPND nuclear project, a facility tied to Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons development.

Also hit were several weapons production sites in the heart of Tehran, alongside eight ballistic missile launchers in western Iran, which Defrin said had been “primed for immediate launch” towards Israel. He added that the air force acted swiftly to neutralise what appeared to be a planned barrage.

“These were precise strikes aimed at neutralising real and immediate threats,” he told reporters, without indicating whether further operations would follow.

The Israeli military has not confirmed the full scale of damage inflicted, but the decision to directly target Tehran — particularly sensitive facilities — signals a sharp escalation. With tensions already high following Iran’s recent missile launch despite a declared ceasefire, this strike appears to be both a retaliation and a warning.

Iran has not issued a formal response yet, but the situation remains highly volatile as fears grow of an even wider confrontation if hostilities continue to intensify.
