In a recent interview from 14:51 shared by Arise News, PDP member and Obidient, Dickson Iroegbu, expressed concern over recent public displays of political support by some figures in the Nigerian film industry.
Reacting to events that occurred during the president’s visit abroad, Iroegbu criticized the actions of certain Nollywood personalities who were seen publicly endorsing political narratives. He described the situation as inappropriate, especially considering the timing and the challenges currently facing the country.
According to him, “We saw some of our colleagues in the movie industry chanting that they will stand on their mandate; that was shameful.” He argued that such actions send the wrong message to Nigerians, particularly at a time when many citizens are grappling with insecurity and economic hardship.
Iroegbu emphasized that public figures, especially those in influential industries like Nollywood, have a responsibility to reflect the mood and concerns of the people. He noted that many Nigerians expect empathy and solidarity from celebrities, not political displays that may appear disconnected from the realities on ground.
