According to a report by The Times of Israel, Iranian officials suspect that a series of unexplained explosions across the country in recent weeks may be the result of sabotage operations carried out by Israel, according to a report by The New York Times.
Though Iranian authorities have officially attributed the blasts—many of which have hit residential buildings and critical oil facilities—to deteriorating infrastructure, sources within the regime reportedly hold a different view. Three Iranian officials, including one affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), told the Times they believe the incidents are part of a covert Israeli campaign aimed at destabilizing the country’s key sectors.
A European official involved in intelligence matters related to Iran also told the newspaper that he suspects Israel is behind the apparent sabotage.
The explosions have fueled growing unease across Iran, which has witnessed a series of disruptive incidents since a brief but intense 12-day conflict with Israel last month. That conflict saw Israel launch a wide-ranging assault targeting Iran’s top military officials, nuclear scientists, and strategic infrastructure, including uranium enrichment sites and ballistic missile facilities. Israeli officials stated the attacks were essential to halt what they described as Iran’s advancing plans to destroy the Jewish state.
Since the end of that conflict, at least a dozen mysterious explosions have been reported in various parts of Iran. Several of these have struck oil depots, power facilities, and residential areas, with local authorities offering limited explanations and downplaying the potential for foul play.
The IRGC and other elements of the Iranian security apparatus have been placed on heightened alert in recent weeks, as concerns mount about further foreign interference. No group has claimed responsibility for the explosions, and there has been no official investigation result pointing to a specific actor.
Israeli officials declined to comment on the Times report, maintaining the government’s longstanding policy of ambiguity regarding covert military or intelligence operations abroad.
