According to New York Post, Iranian lawmakers have loudly voiced their opposition to the United States and Israel by shouting “death to America, death to Israel” immediately after voting to halt cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
This dramatic move comes in the wake of a fragile ceasefire following a 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel, during which Israeli and US forces struck Iranian nuclear sites.
On June 25, Iran’s parliament passed a bill to suspend all cooperation with the IAEA, the UN’s nuclear watchdog responsible for monitoring nuclear programs worldwide.
The legislation effectively bars IAEA inspectors from accessing Iran’s nuclear facilities until Tehran receives guarantees about the security of its nuclear scientists and sites.
The bill must still be approved by Iran’s Guardian Council, a body appointed by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, to become law.
Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf condemned the IAEA for failing to condemn the recent Israeli and US attacks on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, accusing the agency of compromising its credibility.
He declared that Iran’s nuclear program would now accelerate and emphasized that Tehran’s sovereignty and nuclear interests are non-negotiable.
Iranian officials argue that the US “torpedoed diplomacy” and that the IAEA has been politically biased, undermining trust between Tehran and the international community.
Iran insists its nuclear program is peaceful and protected under the Non-Proliferation Treaty, but the recent IAEA reports have raised concerns about Iran’s compliance and transparency.
This suspension of cooperation marks a significant escalation in tensions, complicating efforts to monitor Iran’s nuclear activities and raising fears about the future of nuclear non-proliferation in the region.
