In a candid interview with conservative podcaster Patrick Bet-David, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the widespread belief that Israel controls US. policy.
He also revealed that Iran has twice attempted to assassinate President Donald Trump, and emphasized the shared struggle between the two countries against Iranian aggression.
Bet-David asked Netanyahu about the perception among some Americans that “whatever Israel wants, they make a phone call to America, and America better do it.” Netanyahu firmly disagreed, stating, “Absolutely not.”
“First of all, do you know President Trump? You don’t make him do anything. He does what he thinks is in America’s interest and he’s very forceful about it,” Netanyahu said.
He stressed that the U.S.-Israel relationship is not based on coercion or manipulation, but on “common interest and common values.”
Netanyahu explained that Israel’s fight against Iran ultimately benefits the United States as well.
“We know that we have to fight for ourselves, and we do. But when we fight for ourselves, we fight for you too because we fight Iran.”
He detailed Iran’s longstanding hostility toward the US., highlighting that Tehran has tried to assassinate Trump twice and has killed thousands of Americans in wars across the Middle East.
“Iran killed 241 Marines in Beirut, bombed your embassies, and burns American flags. They have mobs chanting, ‘Death to America.’”
Netanyahu concluded, “So when we fight Iran, we’re not just fighting our war. We’re fighting your war. But we are fighting that war here in the Middle East.”
The interview provides insight into Netanyahu’s perspective on the U.S.-Israel alliance and underscores the shared security challenges both nations face from Iran.
