According to a report by The Times of Israel, US President Donald Trump told the United Nations General Assembly that Iran must never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, declaring that American military action earlier this year had eliminated Tehran’s ability to enrich uranium.

“The world’s number one sponsor of terror can never be allowed to possess the most dangerous weapon,” Trump said in his address. He recounted that shortly after entering office, he wrote to Iran’s Supreme Leader offering “full cooperation in exchange for a suspension of Iran’s nuclear program.” According to Trump, the proposal was rejected, with Tehran continuing to issue threats against its neighbors and American interests.

“As a consequence, the US resorted to force,” Trump said. “Today, many of Iran’s former military commanders — in fact, I can say almost all of them — are no longer with us. They’re dead.”

The president pointed to June’s 12-day war between Israel and Iran, which he claimed ended only after a decisive American strike. Trump detailed what he called Operation Midnight Hammer, carried out three months ago, in which seven B-2 bombers dropped fourteen bombs, each weighing 30,000 pounds, on a key Iranian nuclear facility.

“Totally obliterating everything,” Trump said of the mission. “No other country on Earth could have done what we did. No other country has the equipment to do what we did. We have the greatest weapons on Earth. We hate to use them, but we did something that for 22 years people wanted to do.”

Trump argued that the strike not only crippled Iran’s nuclear program but also paved the way to halt hostilities between Tehran and Jerusalem. “With Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity demolished, I immediately brokered an end to the 12-day war, as it’s called, between Israel and Iran, with both sides agreeing to fight no longer,” he told the assembly.
