According to a report by the Iran News Agency on Monday 25 August, 2025, in a statement that reaffirmed Iran’s long-held doctrinal position.
President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran government, headed by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has never sought and will never seek to build nuclear weapons.
Iran is also working to strengthen its alliance with Russia in response to Western pressure and doubts about its nuclear ambitions.
President Masoud Pezeshian of Iran expressed his gratitude to President Putin for Russia’s steadfast support of Iran’s fundamental and inalienable right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes during a phone call with Putin.
Pezeshian further stated that Iran, in accordance with its beliefs and defensive doctrine, had never sought, was not seeking, and would never seek to build nuclear weapons.
Masoud Pezeshian, Iran’s president, stated, “Iran, based on its beliefs and defensive doctrine, has never sought, is not seeking, and will never seek to build nuclear weapons.” Russian President Vladimir Putin took pride in announcing an eleven percent increase in bilateral trade in the first half of the year.
He cited major joint infrastructure projects, such as the Rasht-Astara railway, as the reason for the surge. Putin also confirmed that cooperation at Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant was proceeding according to plan, with new fuel supplies arriving on time.
In addition, he updated the Iranian president on his recent historic talks with US President Trump in Alaska, revealing that the talks’ exclusive focus was the conflict in Ukraine. He asserted that the agreements reached could soon put an end to the war if put into action, and President Pezeshkian expressed strong optimism about this.
