According to a report by Reuters, Iran has called on key Arab nations to persuade U.S. President Donald Trump to press Israel for an immediate ceasefire, offering flexibility in nuclear negotiations in return. This appeal comes amid intensified Israeli strikes across Iranian cities and Iran’s growing retaliatory missile campaign that has breached Israeli defenses more effectively than ever before.
The request, conveyed through diplomatic channels involving Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, reflects Tehran’s mounting urgency to halt the four-day aerial conflict. According to sources familiar with the talks, Iran’s message to the Arab states is that if Washington wants a resolution, it must rein in Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi emphasized this point in a statement on social media, saying Iran’s responses will continue unless Israel stops its aggression, and hinted that a single call from Trump could change the course of events.
The conflict began on Friday when Israel launched a surprise air assault that reportedly killed top Iranian military leaders and nuclear scientists.
Since then, Israel has expanded its strikes, hitting Tehran airport, uranium enrichment facilities, and government buildings. On Monday, it targeted Iran’s state broadcasting authority, briefly interrupting live news coverage as explosions rocked the building.
The scale of damage is significant. According to Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Israel’s strike on Iran’s primary nuclear site at Natanz likely destroyed or severely damaged most of the 15,000 centrifuges there. Other sites, including Fordow, appear to have escaped major harm.
Tehran’s retaliation has been forceful. Early Monday, Iran launched missiles that hit Tel Aviv and Haifa, killing at least eight people. In total, 24 Israeli civilians have died in the attacks.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claim the latest strike used a tactic that confused Israeli defense systems, allowing missiles to breach the Iron Dome.
Inside Iran, civilian casualties are mounting. Over 220 people have been killed, many of them non-combatants. Iranian media has shown images of damaged homes, burned-out vehicles, and shattered streets. Residents in Tehran are fleeing the capital, with long lines reported at gas stations and banks.
“I am desperate,” said Gholamreza Mohammadi, a civil servant speaking from Tehran. “My children can’t sleep. We hid under our dining table.”
In Israel, scenes of destruction are similarly distressing. Rescue crews continue to search through debris of bombed-out homes. One Tel Aviv resident described the fear of sheltering from incoming missiles as a blast blew open the door of his refuge.
Despite the heavy toll, Netanyahu remains defiant. Speaking to Israeli air force personnel, he declared the mission is progressing toward eliminating Iran’s nuclear capacity and missile stockpiles. “We are on the path to victory,” he said. “We are taking action.”
While Trump has suggested that Iran could end the war quickly by accepting U.S. demands for nuclear limitations, he also issued a warning. Speaking at the G7 summit in Canada, he stated, “They should talk immediately before it’s too late.”
Talks between the U.S. and Iran, previously scheduled to take place in Oman, were canceled after Tehran withdrew, citing the ongoing military pressure. Iranian lawmakers are now considering pulling out of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty—a move that would severely complicate any diplomatic resolution.
Iran’s regional allies, once capable of pressuring Israel, have been weakened. Hezbollah and Hamas, already battered in the Gaza conflict, have not been able to mount significant support.
As the conflict widens, the toll on civilians deepens. Arshia, a 29-year-old art teacher from Tehran, said his family is fleeing to a nearby town. “Every night there are attacks. We have no shelters. Why are we paying the price for this?”
The outcome of this fast-moving conflict remains uncertain, but the stakes—regional stability, nuclear diplomacy, and thousands of civilian lives—could not be higher.
