A former chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Barrister John Nwobodo, has advised Peter Obi not to run as a deputy to any northern candidate in the 2027 presidential election, as reported by LEADERSHIP.

Nwobodo, who was a governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Enugu State, shared his views in an interview with Leadership News.

He believes that Obi should either run for president or step aside from the race.

He stated that Obi has already made a strong impact on Nigeria’s politics.

He does not see him as a desperate politician who would accept any position just to stay in power.

He also spoke about the challenges of defeating the All progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

He said that the APC has a strong presence across Nigeria and includes many influential people.

According to him, winning against APC will require extraordinary efforts and explained that the party’s strength is not just in its name but in its structure and influential members.

He suggested that only a new and united opposition can defeat the APC.

He said that a coalition of political parties and well-mobilized citizens would have a better chance, however, he warned that any opposition led by old politicians would fail.

“I do not think that it would make political sense for Obi to deputise a Northern candidate in 2027 instead of doing that he should not run.”

“Mr. Obi has really created an impact in the political landscape of Nigeria. I do not think that he is a desperate politician who would run for a political office at all cost” Nwobodo stated.
