Senate President Godswill Akpabio, a member of the APC, recently talked about what it means for Edo State to join the APC after the party’s candidate Monday Okpebholo won the gubernatorial election. He said this is a big deal for the South-South region of Nigeria.

In a video recently shared by AIT from 3:36, Akpabio said “in the last election the votes from my senatorial district in Akwa Ibom was more than the votes of the southeast joined together.” He also said that with both Edo and Cross River States now in the APC, it could lead to more states in the South-south following suit. Akpabio stated that the South-South will back President Tinubu’s administration, and the region will support him in 2027

In Akpabio’s words: “In the last election votes from my senatorial district was more than the votes of the southeast joined together despite the situation. What has happened is that yes Cross Rivers State is APC, now Edo is APC, who knows? I can tell you that the entire South-south will stand solidly behind the Tinubu administration and it will reflect in our support even in 2027″.
