Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has shared a significant moment from General Ibrahim Babangida’s life during the Biafran civil war.

Speaking in a video shared by Channels TV, Osinbajo stated that during a battle in Umuahia Babangida had an injury that almost took his life. He said a shrapnel hit Babangida and got stuck in his chest. He said the injury was serious, and Babangida had to be evacuated to Lagos University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

Osinbajo disclosed that while Babangida was recovering in the hospital on April 19, 1969, he watched General Yakubu Gowon’s wedding on television. He revealed that at that moment, Babangida made up his mind to also get married

In Osinbajo’s words: “Perhaps the most unforgettable experience of the civil war for Babangida was the injury that nearly killed him. In the course of a firefight in Umuahia he was hit by shrapnel that eventually was lodged in his chest. And he tells how he was evacuated to the Lagos University teaching hospital. And while he was in the hospital recovering from his injuries on Saturday April 19, 1969 he watched on television in the common room of the hospital as the then-Head of State General Yakubu Gowon married his beautiful black beauty, Victoria. There and then he (Babangida) made up his mind to get married”
