A close ally of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Farouk Adamu Aliyu, has disclosed that in 2015, former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola provided him with an aircraft to convey delegates from Kano to Lagos for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary that led to Buhari’s emergence as the party’s flag bearer.

Aliyu made the revelation while featuring on Politics Today, a political programme on CHANNELS TELEVISION, on Thursday, amid ongoing controversy over who deserves credit for Buhari’s 2015 election victory.

“In 2015, Fashola gave me an aircraft to bring delegates from Kano to Lagos to vote for Buhari,” Aliyu said, as he defended the pivotal roles played by key APC figures—especially President Bola Tinubu and Fashola—in Buhari’s road to Aso Rock.

His comments came in response to recent remarks by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, who claimed at a book launch in Abuja that Tinubu did not make Buhari president, arguing instead that Buhari’s long-standing northern support base delivered the win.

Aliyu dismissed Mustapha’s version of events, insisting it was historically inaccurate and an attempt to rewrite the role played by political allies from the South-West.

“My senior brother, Boss Mustapha, certainly got it wrong. I don’t even remember where he was at that time. Some of these people became part of the Buhari government by accident and now want to change the narrative,” he stated.

Aliyu emphasized that Buhari’s consistent 12 million votes in previous elections had never secured a win until the alliance with Tinubu and the support from the South-West came into play in 2015.

He praised Tinubu’s contributions to Buhari’s victory and stated that the former Lagos governor not only helped Buhari secure the APC ticket but also joined him on nationwide campaigns.

Looking ahead to 2027, Aliyu maintained that there is no rift between Buhari and Tinubu, assuring that Buhari would support Tinubu’s re-election bid.

“The APC is ready. We will put sand in their garri,” he warned the oppositions.
