A quiet residential street in the coastal city of Bat Yam was transformed into a scene of devastation and mourning on Sunday after a direct hit from an Iranian ballistic missile.
The pre-dawn attack flattened an apartment building, killing at least seven people and injuring over a hundred more, according to emergency services.
According to Jerusalem Post, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, visiting the site of the attack, condemned the strike as a “murder of civilians” and vowed that Iran would face a “very heavy price.” Standing amidst the rubble, Netanyahu framed the incident as part of an “existential battle” for Israel.
“Think about what would happen if Iran had 20,000 missiles like this,” the Prime Minister stated, highlighting the grave threat posed by Tehran’s ballistic missile program.
“It would be an existential threat to Israel. That is why we launched a war of salvation against a dual annihilation threat, and we are doing so with strength.”
Netanyahu asserted that Israel is “nearing a victory” in its ongoing conflict with the Islamic Republic and urged citizens to remain vigilant and adhere to the directives of the Home Front Command. “Iran will pay a very heavy price for the murder of civilians. We will also achieve our goal,” he declared.
Rescue teams continue to sift through the debris in a desperate search for survivors. The attack on Bat Yam is one of the deadliest in a recent escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran, which has seen both nations launch direct attacks on each other’s territories.
The international community has expressed grave concern over the spiraling conflict, with calls for de-escalation from several world leaders. The strike has left the community of Bat Yam shattered and on edge, a stark testament to the human cost of the escalating shadow war between the two regional adversaries.
