According to a report by Channels TV, on Thursday March 26, 2026, a Former Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki has dismissed claims that the People Democratic Party (PDP) is a spent force, asserting that despite internal disagreements at the leadership level, the party remains a household name and the preferred choice for the Nigerian grassroots.

Responding to assertions that the party is dead and gone, Saraki argued that such perceptions are often a result of the political “noise” emanating from the nation’s capital.

“When you stay here in Abuja you might say that because of the noise that comes out from the leaders having their disagreement,” Saraki observed. “But when you go out to the states and you go into the grassroots in different states, you’ll find out that PDP is still very, very strong.”

Saraki, who served two terms as the Governor of Kwara State, used his home state as a primary example of the party’s enduring appeal.

He revealed that even when presented with the option to move to smaller or alternative platforms, stakeholders and aspirants consistently chose to remain with the PDP.

“I said to all the aspirants that are contesting go and have a meeting and come back and tell me which platform do you want,” he explained. “The first choice that comes from feedback from the grassroots is that people still have this love and this affiliation for PDP.”

While acknowledging the challenges and “noise” within the political landscape, the former Senate President maintained that the party’s brand remains potent and “sellable” to the Nigerian electorate.

“I’m saying that even across the country, PDP is still a household name,” Saraki declared. When asked if the party was still viable or “cable,” he responded emphatically, “It is cable, very cable.” Read_More…
