Nigerian singer and rapper Eedris Abdulkareem clarified that his song “Tell Your Papa” was not intended as a personal attack on Seyi Tinubu. Instead, he views it as a response to a statement made by Seyi, who claimed that his father, President Bola Tinubu, is Nigeria’s best-ever president.
This statement was made by Seyi Tinubu during an event in Yola, Adamawa State, in March 2025.
Abdulkareem emphasized that the song is a call for the president’s son to encourage his father to address pressing issues such as Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.
According to Abdulkareem, Nigerian youth are seeking basic necessities, including electricity, security, a conducive economic environment, job creation, and not just temporary solutions or palliatives.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Rubbin’ Minds programme, Abdulkareem expressed that there is no reason to attack Seyi Tinubu personally. He stated that if Seyi had not commented, he would not have recorded the song.
Abdulkareem further explained that his inspiration for the song came directly from Seyi Tinubu’s statement, highlighting his intention to address larger societal issues rather than engage in personal conflicts.
His words,
“So, why should I attack Seyi Tinubu personally? If Seyi Tinubu never talked about it, I wouldn’t have recorded a song like that. So, I am replying to the video that he made. If he had kept quiet, I wouldn’t have said anything. I am inspired by Seyi Tinubu to record that song.”
