A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Muiz Banire, has expressed uncertainty about President Bola Tinubu’s involvement in the recent impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Obasa, who had been serving as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly since 2015 and was in his third term, was recently removed from office following allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of power.

This development came after President Bola Tinubu and the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, intervened to resolve the conflict between Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Mudashiru Obasa.

During an interview with Channels TV from 17:18 , Banire was asked if he thinks that the president had any influence on the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa. He explained that the President typically refrains from interfering in such matters.

He noted that in situations like this, he generally adopts a stance of indifference, allowing events to take their course. Banire added that any support previously enjoyed by the former speaker would likely dissipate after the impeachment.

He said, “From my experience in Lagos State politics, I’m not too sure that he (Bola Tinubu) actually had a hand in this one. But the truth of the matter is that, once such an event happens, he hardly intervenes. He would be indifferent to it, [thinking] that, ‘well, it has occurred, it has occured, you just have to let it go.’ If there was some measure of support that the former speaker had gathered before, it will crumble now. Beyond that, nothing.”
