Former Sokoto State Governor Senator Aminu Tambuwal has distanced himself from allegations of a northern conspiracy against President Bola Tinubu, while confirming his participation in a broader national movement seeking political change in 2027.
Speaking during a Channels TV interview from 40:32, Tambuwal clarified his political stance and involvement in opposition activities ahead of the next presidential election. “I am not involved in the coming together of the north to say that President Tinubu must go. I am involved in a national coalition that believes there should be a change of guards in Aso Rock through a constitutional democratic process on May 29th, 2027,” the former governor stated.
Tambuwal challenged prevailing narratives about President Tinubu’s electoral invincibility, citing the 2023 presidential election results in Lagos State as evidence of the incumbent’s vulnerability. “Tinubu lost in Lagos in 2023, and he was on the ballot. He lost in his primary constituency of Lagos,” he argued. “Efforts being made to make us believe there’s invincibility—that Bola Tinubu cannot be defeated—is rubbish. He can be defeated; I believe so, and I’m working along with the coalition leaders to do that and to achieve that objective.”
However, it should be noted that President Tinubu’s overall electoral record remains unblemished. Throughout his political career, he served as senator, won two gubernatorial elections, secured the presidency in 2023, and has never lost an election.
Contradicting Tambuwal’s optimism, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Chieftain Abdulmumin Jibrin had earlier on argued that President Tinubu remains unbeatable in 2027.
Jibrin’s analysis suggests that the President could secure victory by focusing on specific regional coalitions, potentially winning the election with support from the North Central and Southern regions without requiring backing from the Northwest and Northeast.
