Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and a well-known Nigerian political figure, paid a condolence visit to the Dantata family in Kano following the death of Alhaji Aminu Dantata, uncle to billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote.
In the video from 6:14, Obi’s visit also came in the wake of the tragic fire that destroyed the popular GSM market in Kano, which caused major losses for traders and the wider community.
At the Dantata family residence, Obi expressed heartfelt sympathy over the loss of the respected nonagenarian industrialist. He praised the Dantata family for their longstanding contributions to Nigeria’s economic growth and community development.
Offering prayers and words of comfort, he emphasized the importance of unity and resilience during difficult times.
Obi also visited the scene of the fire-ravaged GSM market, where he met with affected traders and local leaders. He listened to their concerns and encouraged them to stay hopeful.
Acknowledging the gravity of their loss, he called on both the government and private sector to step in and assist in rebuilding efforts.
“I’m here not for politics, not for campaign, but because I heard that this market was burnt when I was not in Nigeria. I came back to Kano today and decided to visit you among other things,” Obi said.
“Let me start by thanking the Kano State government, who have already come here and promised to rebuild the market. I’ll thank them and follow up in my small way. We’ll do whatever is possible to support.” he continued
“I’m also appealing to the Federal Government, because today, we need small businesses to be functional. Kano State is a great city. Kano market is very great, and we don’t want you to be out of business.”
