Popular Nigerian singer Sola Allyson has opened up about her unconventional approach to marriage, revealing that although she is married, she maintains her own residence separate from her husband’s.

Speaking in an interview from 30:2 with Oyinmomo TV, the music star explained that her decision stems from a broader belief about individuality and the need to correct long-standing societal teachings that often place undue expectations on women.

According to her, the traditional interpretation of “being in a husband’s house” has, over time, created a sense of ownership that many men subconsciously adopt, ultimately contributing to unhealthy relational dynamics.

The singer highlighted that there is a clear difference between the institution of marriage and physically residing in a spouse’s home. She emphasized that her marital commitment remains intact despite their choice to live separately, noting that she and her husband mutually agreed to define their partnership in a way that best supports their personal growth and shared values.

Allyson addressed the need to reevaluate teachings that have shaped cultural expectations, especially those that assume women must exist under the authority or possession of their husbands. She argued that such mindsets have fuelled many of the challenges faced in modern relationships, as they reduce marriage to a structure of control rather than partnership.

In her words: “I have several programs I’m doing, like Seat and Gist with Sola Allyson with youths. I also do Hang Out with Sola Allyson and Dear Men with Sola Allyson. From what I’m doing, I’m not saying men are bad, but it’s just that some teachings have gone terribly wrong, and it’s causing problems for all of us. Being married is different from being in my husband’s house. My husband and I married ourselves. I am married, but I’m in my husband’s house. He is in his house, and I’m in mine. Saying I’m in my husband’s house usually gives men a sense of ownership over women.” View, More,
