Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe has reacted strongly to the recent wave of politicians leaving their parties to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). In an interview with Arise Television from 23.14, he questioned the reason behind these defections and whether they truly benefit the people, especially those from the Southeast.

Speaking on the matter, Abaribe said he would find it difficult to explain to his people in Aba, a major city in his senatorial district, why he would join the APC. According to him, the people of Aba are smart and always ask tough, important questions.

“I’m going to go to the Aba People and tell them, we’re defecting to the APC. They will ask me one simple question: What have the Igbos gained from this government?” Abaribe said.

He explained that he once asked a friend this same question, and the only answer he got was the creation of the Southeast Development Commission. Abaribe quickly pointed out that other regions already have similar commissions, so this doesn’t count as a special benefit.

He went on to say that the current government has practiced what he called “competitive nepotism.” He explained that this means favoring certain groups over others, just like former President Buhari, whom many criticized for being unfair in appointments and development plans.
