According to an August 1, 2025, report by IRNA News Agency, during Friday prayers in Tehran, interim cleric, Ayatollah Seyyed Ahmad Khatami, has issued a stern warning to Israel, cautioning that any renewed aggression against Iran would be met with overwhelming force.
“If you violate the ceasefire or repeat your madness, we will crush Israel with a devastating operation and turn Tel Aviv into a ghost town,” Khatami declared in his sermon, directly addressing Israeli leaders.
The warning follows a deadly conflict in June, during which Israel launched a surprise attack on Iran on June 13. The assault killed over 1,000 people, including high-ranking military commanders and scientists in a series of targeted strikes.
In response, Iran’s Armed Forces retaliated with missile and drone strikes on Israeli targets. The conflict escalated further when Iran launched a missile attack on a United States (U.S.) airbase in Qatar. That strike came after the United States bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities on June 22, just two days before a ceasefire took effect, ending the 12-day war.
Ayatollah Khatami praised the Iranian public for their unity during the conflict.
“What the Iranian people demonstrated during the 12-day war against the enemy was a unified voice sent from the Islamic country to the world, and it was the voice of unity and solidarity, declaring to the world that if Iran is targeted by the enemy, people will stand for the Islamic Republic to the last breath,” he said.
The cleric’s remarks reflect the ongoing tensions in the region, despite the fragile ceasefire. While both sides have halted direct attacks for now, the situation remains volatile, and Iranian officials continue to signal their readiness to respond to future threats with force.
Khatami’s sermon served both as a tribute to Iran’s resilience and a stark message to its adversaries: Iran will not tolerate further acts of aggression without consequence.
