Political analyst Augustine Okhiria has made a bold statement about the southeastern region’s potential for growth and development. In an interview with AIT from 33:55, Okhiria asserted that if the south-east is challenged to work hard and harness its resources, it has the potential to surpass even economic giants like China.
He suggested that Edo and Delta states, which were historically part of the Midwest region, could function effectively under one governor. He also highlighted the vast size of Niger State, which exceeds the entire south-eastern region in land mass, and proposed merging states in the south-east to boost productivity.
According to him, “Edo and Delta do not need two governors; if they were Midwest, they don’t need two governors. The entire south-east is smaller in terms of size (land mass) than Niger State. Niger State is bigger than the entire south-east (if you’re looking at land mass), so they’ll even be more productive if they merge. And give it to the south-east; if you give them the challenge to go back to Enugu and work very hard, they’ll overrun Tawan; they’ll overrun China.”…..Sée Móre
