Public affairs analyst Tony-Uche Ezekweli has claimed that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s popularity in Anambra State has fallen so sharply that many residents now dislike him more than they do the All Progressives Congress, a party with historically limited support in the state.
Speaking during an interview on TVC News, Ezekweli stated, “If you do opinion poll in Anambra, you will see that people hate Soludo more than they hate APC.” He argued that the governor’s policies and style of governance have alienated significant portions of the electorate, including those who initially supported his emergence under the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
According to Ezekweli, the discontent is rooted in what many perceive as Soludo’s high-handedness, unfulfilled promises and a disconnect from the daily struggles of ordinary citizens. “The expectations were very high when he came in, but the reality on the ground is that people feel disappointed,” he noted.
Political watchers say this shift in sentiment could have significant implications for Anambra’s political landscape ahead of future elections. APGA has long enjoyed dominance in the state, while APC has struggled to gain a foothold due to perceptions of being out of touch with the South-East. Ezekweli’s statement suggests that the political equation could be changing if voter dissatisfaction with the incumbent deepens.
Grassroots opinion in parts of the state reflects mixed reactions while some residents acknowledge certain infrastructural projects, others complain about economic hardship, governance style and what they see as inadequate engagement with the populace.
Ezekweli’s remarks are already stirring political debates across Anambra, with some calling for an urgent recalibration of the governor’s approach to governance if APGA hopes to maintain its influence in the coming political seasons.
