Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a popular Islamic cleric, has stated that the Nigerian government should adopt a non-kinetic approach in dealing with insecurity caused by armed herdsmen in the northern region

According to a report by Channels Television on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, Gumi said many armed herdsmen are ready to drop their weapons if they are engaged peacefully. He stated that the herdsmen have repeatedly shown interest in peace and, when invited for peace talks, they often arrive with their guns for various reasons.

Gumi questioned why the authorities always prefer a kinetic approach in dealing with the herdsmen, even though many of them are open to peace negotiations.

Gumi also said it is easier to initiate peace talks with armed herdsmen than with groups like IPOB and Boko Haram. In his words: “If you have been following, the Fulani herdsmen have been calling for peace. When you call them for peace, they come with their guns for many reasons. Can you call IPOB for peace? Can you call Boko Haram?” View, More,
