A Former PDP Presidential Aspirant, Dele Momodu has lamented the current state of President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, noting that it would be challenging to identify even ten ministers who have performed admirably. This sentiment, he suggested, is shared by the average Nigerian, as the current administration appears to have replicated a local governance model on a national scale, resulting in widespread inefficiencies.

He criticized the prevailing culture of political appointments in Nigeria, where positions are often given as compensation rather than based on merit. He argued that many cabinet members are overly dependent on President Tinubu, compromising their ability to provide honest feedback and effective governance. He recounted conversations at various events where these individuals expressed their frustrations privately but hesitated to voice their concerns publicly due to their reliance on the President.

He said in an interview with Channels TV From 23:35, ”I’m someone who believes in star studded cabinet. Former President Ibrahim Babangida had one of the best cabinet in Nigeria and he tried his best. Obasanjo also tried his best to assemble the people in his cabinet. But today, if you ask me to name 10 ministers that have done well in Tinubu’s cabinet, I will struggle. And it’s not just me, ask any average person and they will confirm this to you. What we have today is that someone transferred the template of Lagos to Abuja and that is why we are failing today.

Nigeria cannot continue to operate on the basis of compensation. A lot of people in that cabinet right now, their lives totally depend on Tinubu and they cannot tell him the truth. I know what they tell us when we meet at events and occasions. But I as an individual cannot keep quiet, I write letters to express my opinion always. I wrote to Obasanjo, I wrote to Jonathan and that is why I’m also writing a letter to a man that I know from way back that we cannot continue in this way.”….Seë_Morë
