Former federal lawmaker and APC leader, Chidi Wihioka, has accused ex-governor Rotimi Amaechi of betraying the trust of Rivers people and causing the state to lose the Dangote refinery project.
Speaking in a live coverage by Symfoni from 2:36, Wihioka said Amaechi’s alleged selfishness denied Rivers the economic opportunities now being enjoyed by Lagos and the Southwest. “We thought he (Amaechi) was sincere, but he was not. Thank God God used Wike to liberate us. If Wike had been governor then, he would never have allowed our refinery to leave Rivers State. By now, we would have been enjoying the benefits. Most of our youths loitering around without jobs would have been employed there,” he declared.
The former House of Representatives member said he personally visited the Dangote refinery site in Lagos and was overwhelmed by its scale. “As a former House member, I went to the site—it took us 2 days. We couldn’t cover the whole area. The facilities and things granted to those communities are what we were supposed to have gotten in Rivers State,” Wihioka recounted.
He insisted that the state lost out because of one man’s alleged greed. “But one selfish man decided to ask for his personal benefit over the interest of Rivers State, which he swore an oath to protect and defend,” he added.
