Hon. Charles Anike, President of the Eastern Union (EU), has reacted to recent claims of marginalisation coming from northern leaders under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He described the complaints as hasty and lacking substance, especially considering the North’s current grip on several key federal positions as reported by Independent Nigeria on August 3, 2025.
Responding in a recent interview, Anike argued that what the North is experiencing is only the beginning of what could unfold if Tinubu secures another term. He warned that a more aggressive push of a regional agenda could be on the way, and that the North may soon understand what true marginalisation looks like.
He stated, “The North should wait because their cry and complains are just coming too early. If Tinubu ever wins second term, the North will know what it means to be marginalised.”
Continuing, he said, “What they have just seen is just an introduction to the Yorubanisation and Yoruba agenda which Tinubu will be used to execute, if… Tinubu is just pretending now.”
Anike’s comments reflect wider concerns about ethnic imbalance in appointments and political decisions, especially in the context of Nigeria’s multi-ethnic structure. He noted that while the North currently benefits from key roles, the South East has remained the most politically sidelined since the beginning of the current administration.
He cautioned that real national unity cannot be achieved where one or two regions dominate the political scene. The Eastern Union leader reiterated the group’s commitment to advocating for equity, fairness, and genuine inclusion of all regions in national leadership.
