The Director General of the Buhari Organisation, Alhaji Sule Hamma, believes President Bola Tinubu can secure the 12.7 million votes that late President Muhammadu Buhari commanded in Nigeria’s northern region.
Speaking during an interview with Arise TV from 9:53, Hamma explained that Tinubu’s approach to governance holds the key to winning over northern voters. “If Bola Tinubu continues on this line of pursuing a social, political agenda or program and of incorporating people and creating a mass base both for his support and a participatory government, there’s no doubt it will be possible to pick up those 12.7 million votes,” he stated.
The Buhari ally however noted that Tinubu must work to earn the large number of votes from the North in 2027, emphasizing that the president himself must actively campaign for northern support.
He highlighted the historical precedent of cross-regional political collaboration and suggested that Tinubu would need to demonstrate similar commitment to building northern alliances for the 2027 elections.
Alhaji Sule recalled that between 2007 and 2011, there was an attempt by General Buhari, Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Orji Kalu, and himself to create a new political party where they would all work together to confront the PDP.
He revealed that the group met regularly in Lagos at Tinubu’s house for over one year, gathering every two to four weeks with just the five of them to develop a new political party and arrangement.
The Buhari Organisation chief addressed questions about potential northern leaders who could fill the political vacuum left by Buhari’s passing. When asked whether any northern leader possesses the capacity to match Buhari’s influence, Hamma responded philosophically: “Opportunities create a hero. If opportunities were to exist like they did for him, I have no doubt, the north will produce many like him.”
