Datti Baba-Ahmed, former Labour Party vice presidential candidate and a prominent figure in the emerging opposition coalition, has affirmed his support for Peter Obi if Obi secures the coalition’s presidential ticket for the 2027 elections.

In an Arise Television interview, Baba-Ahmed addressed his ongoing political alignment with Obi and the shifting dynamics of Nigeria’s opposition landscape.

He emphasized that his loyalty to Obi remains steadfast as long as they share a common political platform or objective. Baba-Ahmed further stated that he would back Obi as the coalition’s consensus candidate.

Reflecting on past discussions, he revealed that he had previously recommended three potential running mates to Obi, including Nasir El-Rufai. Baba-Ahmed also claimed he had foreseen El-Rufai’s political trajectory years ago, which he believes is now unfolding as predicted.

According to him, “If Peter Obi is with me in Labour Party and we all decide to stay back in Labour Party and contest, I’m with him by default. If he contests in coalition and he wins it, I’ll give him the support. It’s left for him. I gave him 3 names, one of which is Nasir El-Rufai.”

His remarks highlight the strategic maneuvers within the opposition as it consolidates under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.
