In a recent interview on Channels Television, Peter Ameh, the National Secretary of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), described former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as the most influential political figure in Nigeria today.

According to Ameh, Obi has become a magnetic force in the nation’s political space, commanding attention from diverse groups and individuals eager to align with him or secure his endorsement.

Ameh noted that Obi’s rising stature has made him a central figure in discussions about Nigeria’s political future. He explained that many political actors are drawn to Obi because of his credibility, popularity, and the hope he represents to millions of Nigerians.

However, he cautioned that not all who seek Obi’s partnership do so with genuine intentions. Some, he warned, may disguise their true motives, attempting to leverage Obi’s goodwill and influence for selfish advantage or to weaken his standing over time.

Despite these risks, Ameh expressed strong confidence in Obi’s discernment and integrity. He commended Obi’s ability to navigate competing pressures while keeping the people’s interests at the forefront of his decisions.

Ameh stressed that Obi consistently promotes transparent and fair electoral practices, underscoring his commitment to democracy and service. Ultimately, he emphasized, the Nigerian electorate—not political scheming—will decide the nation’s direction, with Obi’s popularity serving as a powerful reminder of the people’s voice.

“If it’s for election, Peter doesn’t have those kinds of attitudes of going to buy votes and give money,” he stated, drawing a distinction between Obi’s methods and traditional political practices.
